Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA) has announced a major relief and recovery effort following the deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego (ICSD) earlier this week, where three people lost their lives in what authorities are investigating as a possible anti-Muslim hate crime.

According to IRUSA, the organization will provide $190,000 in financial assistance to Bright Horizon Academy (BHA), the school affiliated with ICSD. The funding will cover salaries for teachers and faculty for the remainder of the school year, allowing staff to focus on healing and supporting students during this difficult time.

In addition, IRUSA is issuing a $20,000 grant to Amaly, a San Diego-based mental health services organization, to expand counseling and emotional support services for children, faculty, and members of the broader community impacted by the tragedy.

“This funding will play a critical role, ensuring there is no financial burden on the school teachers and faculty so they can focus on recovery during this emotionally difficult time,” said Ahmed Shehata, Chief Executive Officer of Islamic Relief USA. “Islamic Relief USA will support ICSD every step of the way.”

IRUSA also confirmed that trained chaplains specializing in emotional and spiritual care are being mobilized to support grieving families and community members as recovery efforts continue.

The organization stated that it remains in close coordination with ICSD leadership to assess additional urgent needs in the days ahead.
