July 16, 2025 NEW YORK — Maurene Comey, a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, has been dismissed from her role, according to a report by CNN.
Comey has been involved in major federal cases, including the prosecution of financier Jeffrey Epstein and, more recently, the investigation involving music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.
CNN reports that the reason for her departure has not been made public.
Her removal, especially in the absence of transparency, raises renewed concerns about public trust in the justice system. In an era where communities are demanding fairness, independence, and accountability from federal institutions, unaddressed personnel decisions can deepen skepticism and undermine confidence in equal treatment under the law.
