History In The Making: Abdul El-Sayed Wins Michigan Democratic Senate Primary

A historic moment for American Muslims unfolded Tuesday night as Dr. Abdul El-Sayed won the Democratic primary for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat.
After a closely contested race, Dr. El-Sayed secured the Democratic nomination and moved one step closer to making history. If elected in November, he would become the first Muslim ever elected to the United States Senate.
A physician, former public health leader, and longtime advocate for accessible healthcare, Dr. El-Sayed built his campaign around expanding opportunity, lowering costs for families, and strengthening public service. His victory has been celebrated by many across the Muslim American community as a milestone for Muslim representation in American politics.
Dr. El-Sayed will now face Republican nominee Mike Rogers in the November general election in one of the nation’s most closely watched Senate races.
Congratulations to Dr. Abdul El-Sayed on this historic achievement, and best wishes as he continues his campaign toward the U.S. Senate.
