President Trump Says Ukraine War Could End with Land Swaps and U.S. Security Guarantees

BREAKING: New York, August 15, 2025 President Donald Trump said Friday that his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin included discussions on a possible framework to end the war in Ukraine, one that could involve land concessions and U.S. security guarantees.

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Trump confirmed that both he and Putin discussed territorial concessions that would leave Russia with land it did not hold before the 2022 invasion, in exchange for U.S. commitments to Ukraine’s security.

“Well, I think those are points that we negotiated, and those are points that we largely have agreed on,” Trump said. “Actually, I think we agree on a lot. I can tell you, the meeting was a warm meeting.”

While calling Putin “a strong guy” and “tough as hell,” Trump characterized the meeting as positive and suggested that the conflict could be nearing its end.

“I think we’re pretty close to the end. And look, Ukraine has to agree to it,” he added, offering advice for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky: “Gotta make a deal.”

Trump’s remarks highlight a possible shift in U.S. policy toward a negotiated settlement, though Ukraine has consistently rejected giving up any territory. Russia, meanwhile, has insisted it will not return regions it claims to have annexed. The outcome of these negotiations could dramatically alter Ukraine’s borders and reshape the security landscape of Europe.
